5.17.15 – At Sunrise
60’s and Cloudy
9.6 Miles – 2,490 ft Elevation Gain
Most of my trail runs for then next two months are going to be up and down these same trails. It is the best prolonged climb I can find that is similar to the climbs I will face in the Santa Barbara 100k. From Lost Dog Wash to Sunrise Peak is 3 miles and climbs close to 1,300 ft. I take the other side down, Sunrise trail and then back up again to the same peak. From the back side it climbs almost 1200 ft. in about 2 miles. So for the total out and back from where I park is the above stats (9.6 Miles and 2,490 ft of gain).
This run started with a great sunrise and a nice glow from over the peaks.
Running in this area is good technical training as it is always rocky. However, the recent rain had pushed even more loose rocks on the trail which made the footing even more uncertain.
From the first time up to Sunrise Peak.
The trail on the other side is steep in some places but much more runable and less technical then from the Lost Dog side.
From the second time up to Sunrise Peak and the clouds are starting to break up a bit. The sun came out in the last 5 minutes of the run.
